Pride Unites LGBTQ
We strive to increase the awareness of LGBTQ issues in our community to encourage lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and straight to work together on issues that affect our family, work and social lives. We advocate on behalf of civil rights for all, and we oppose laws or legislation and regulations which discriminate against members of the LGBTQ community.
Women’s Human Rights
We study issues of reproductive rights, violence against women, equal pay, health care, economic justice, and equality in education. We oppose binding arbitration agreements in the workplace which deny women access to the court system where gender discrimination and harassment cases may be litigated.
Without exception, we support a woman’s right to control her own body. We oppose religious conscience clauses, laws that criminalize pregnancy, and efforts by elected officials, doctors, pharmacists, health care workers and employers which deny women full access to health care choices.
We support a woman’s right to make decisions about her well-being without religious or cultural interference or discrimination.
Civil Rights
We promote and protect individual rights and liberties through advocacy at the local, state and federal levels. Our work includes efforts to make our community a welcoming and safe place for all, defending people from government abuse and intrusion, preserving the right to vote, and promoting religious liberty and racial and social justice for all.
Environmental Action
We advocate for clean water and air and oppose deregulation that leads to the pollution of those vital resources. We support the Paris Climate Accord and all efforts to decrease production of greenhouse gases. Renewable energy solutions that limit or reverse global warming and divestment of fossil fuel investments are strategic goals.
We support full funding of the EPA and advocate scientific research and regulation concerning negative effects of chemical bioaccumulation.
We demand accountability for corporate stewardship of our planet.
We support policies that favor small farmers, state environmental protections, and worker safeguards.
Gun Safety
We educate the public about the deadly effect guns have in our society. Each day 93 Americans are killed by guns. Common sense gun laws can save thousands of lives each year while also preserving the Second Amendment. We oppose efforts to pass a federal concealed carry law that would undermine New York’s safer gun laws. We oppose guns in public parks, schools, bars, and in public, without a permit. In addition, guns are intricately linked to domestic violence against women, who are 16 times more likely to be killed with a gun in the United States than in other developed countries. We support the removal of all guns from a defendant who is the subject of an order of protection and background checks for all sales involving handguns.
Health Care
We study and advocate for the most comprehensive, efficient and compassionate health care system which regulates prescription drug prices. Saratoga Unites urges the elimination of systemic discrimination in health care and service.
